Events
We hold a variety of special events, including Workshops, Fundraisers, and Outreach events, as well as our annual Opportunity X Science Fair.
Through these events, we hope to inspire students to pursue scientific research at a deeper level. Ultimately, our goal is to promote interest for science while having lots of fun along the way.

Opportunity X Santa Comes to Town
Dec 5, 2021
In partnership with the Kiwanis Club of South San Francisco, Opportunity X hosted a demo table at their annual winter STEM event this past weekend, which was Opportunity X's first in person event since Covid-19. We had activities like chemical color manipulation with cabbage juice concentrate, sodium polyacrylate "snow", absorbent polymer beads, and dry ice bubbles! Volunteers came from 4 high schools across the Bay, which were The Harker School, El Cerrito High School, Castro Valley High School, and the Oakland School for the Arts. Lots of interest was garnered from young and old alike, and the community was very responsive!

Opportunity X Engineering Bootcamp
July 27, 2021
We are hosting a FREE & VIRTUAL five day long engineering boot camp this summer! We'll run through one engineering project during our 2 hours Zoom session each day. We will also post tutorial videos on our YouTube channel in case you have to miss a session.

Opportunity X Interest Workshop
June 27, 2021
We hosted a workshop to share our volunteering opportunities with interested high schoolers. Dozens of prospective volunteers showed up to hear about our volunteers and officers’ personal experiences and ask questions during our Q&A session.

Opportunity X Virtual Science Fair
May 29, 2021
The inaugural Opportunity X Virtual Science Fair was a huge success! More than 100 students participated in the Science Research competition and our brand new Opportunity X Science Exploration Challenge. We were very excited to have received more than 20 projects from international participants in Asia and Europe.
We invited 3 keynote speakers from Stanford, Google, and NASA whose talks were extremely inspirational and interesting for our Opportunity X community.
We also invited nine judges who are scientists, engineers, and educators from high schools and colleges to review the students' projects and had live interview with the students.
We wish to thank all our hardworking volunteers and everyone who have helped to make this event truly amazing!

Opportunity X Virtual Summer Camp

The Opportunity X Virtual Summer Camp was one of the few virtual summer camps offered around the country to provide science research opportunities to middle school students. The camp provided complete kits of experiment materials to all 100 participants. Our camp was completely FREE of charge to make our opportunities available to all students.

Lexus Volunteer Fair
September 14, 2019
We represented Opportunity X at the annual Lexus Volunteer Fair. High school volunteers and their parents are very interested in our program. We got quite a few signups onsite.

Opportunity X Science Fair
May 24, 2019
We held our very own science fair which was attended by over 100 students, family members, and friends from four schools in San Jose. We invited 2 keynote speakers and 3 excellent judges who judged for 14 different Opportunity X awards. This was a very special and memorable event on our timeline, and we are very proud of all our students.

Cupertino Volunteer Fair
May 4, 2019
Represented Opportunity X at the annual Cupertino Volunteer Fair! We had a blast spreading information about our organization to local attendees and were so delighted to receive so much enthusiasm and encouragement. Looking forward to working with some of our new volunteers!!!

Synopsys Science Fair Award Presentation
March 2019
We sponsored the Opportunity X + Synopsys special award for the 2019 Synopsys Science Fair.
To encourage more new schools to participate, we handed out two $100 awards to two projects from middle schools that had never participated in the Synopsys Science Fair before.

Synopsys Championship

5 Five of our students qualify for and participate in the 2019 Synopsys Championship Science Fair! We are so proud of all of the hard work they've put into their projects.







2018 Holiday Season Fundraising
November 2018 - January 2019
During the 2018 holiday season, we held a series of restaurant and company fundraisers through much hard work from our team! A big thank you to everyone who donated. All funds will go towards supporting our student’s research projects.
Chipotle Fundraiser
Our second fundraiser was at Chipotle in the Almaden area. Because of the community’s effort and kindness, we were able to publicize our organization and garner support for our free middle school programs. Stay tuned for more fundraising events in the future! We couldn’t run our programs and workshops without the contributions of our donors.
Panda Express Fundraiser
According to our fortune cookies, 2019 is off to an auspicious start! Our first event of the New Year was at Panda Express, introducing our organization and mission to the general public. Watching strangers come together in support of our cause was nothing short of magical; here’s to a year full of positivity, learning, and of course, orange chicken!


Science Research for Middle School Students
December 8, 2018 @ West Valley Branch Library, San Jose
In this workshop, Alice introduced Synopsys Regional Science Fair, California State Science Fair and National Broadcom MASTERS competition. She gave detailed instructions on how to apply for these science research competitions and how to be successful in these competitions. Alice also shared her recent DC trip where she attended the National Broadcom MASTERS Finalists Competition. She gave tips on how to motivate middle school students to do science research. In the end, Alice and Cynthia introduced Opportunity X to the audience and encouraged the students to volunteer for their community.
The workshop was a big success, with more than 50 students and parents attending from all over the Bay Area. We want to thank all of the attendees!

Harker Service Fair
November 12, 2018 @ Harker High School
The Opportunity X team members from Harker (Cynthia, Alice, Andrew, Bowen, and Riyaa) represented Opportunity X at Harker's annual Service Fair!! We spread the word about our organization, talked to Harker students, teachers, and parents about what we do, and got over 70 volunteer signups from Harker students. Thanks to all who visited our booth!

BJ's Restaurant Fundraiser
October 11, 2018 @ BJ's San Jose
We kicked off the year with a fun-filled dinner at BJ’s to get to know the Opportunity X team, bond over our love of STEM and pizookies, and start fundraising within the community. It was great to watch families and restaurant staff alike come together to support our cause! All proceeds will be directed to improving our curriculum and securing more resources for our programs and workshops.
Keep a lookout for more fundraisers in the near future. We can’t wait to see you there!

In this free library workshop, Kaushik and Adishree introduced science research and gave an overview of the process. They talked about participation in the Synopsys Science Fair and encouraged involvement, as well as giving advice on how to stay interested and thrive in the process.

Broadcom MASTERS Info Session
April 16, 2017 @ West Valley Branch Library, San Jose
All the Broadcom MASTERS nominees of the 2017 Santa Clara Valley Synopsys Science and Engineering Fair were invited to this workshop. It was a great success, with more than 30 students and parents attending. In their presentation, Cynthia and Adishree covered information regarding the Broadcom MASTERS competition and gave advice about how to complete the application, followed by a Q&A session.
UPDATE: Attendees from our workshop went on to achieve amazing results at the 2017 Broadcom MASTERS Competition, including 1 National Finalist and 3 Semifinalists!!
